Ver en YouTubeDuring the #URUGUAYSUB200 expedition, led by Dr. Alvar Carranza, the science team used ROV SuBastian during the first effort to systematically collect samples and footage from seafloor communities in Uruguayan deep waters. They observed a mix of temperate and subtropical species, supported by warm and cold water currents that meet off the coast. Colorful residents found living among the reefs included bellowsfish (also known as hummingbird fish), slit shell snails, groupers, and sharks. This school of fish was observed not observing a crustacean crawling along the seafloor at 205 meters. The science team was exploring near the head of the La Paloma submarine canyon along the edge of the Uruguayan continental shelf. Credit: ROV SuBastian / Schmidt Ocean Institute
